How to use WordSmart in the Skills Center Vocabulary building software to improve reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of the English Language

What does Word Smart do? WordSmart Vocabulary uses a multi- sensory approach to learning not only vocabulary but also the word origin, and most common misuses that confuse so many people into using words incorrectly. It combines a series of exercises that focus on comprehension instead of memorization. – Word Smart Corporation ++

How to Begin Using the Program To use the program 1.Select WordSmart from the Select Your Class Name section 2.Click on New Student 3.Type in the required information. birthday (Your birthday will be your WordSmart password.) 4. Click OK. AFTER YOU CREATE AN ACCOUNT: To begin the program choose Word Smart and Your Name then under the LOGIN section click on Student. The password prompt will appear. AFTER YOU CREATE AN ACCOUNT: To begin the program choose Word Smart and Your Name then under the LOGIN section click on Student. The password prompt will appear.

Diagnostic Test You will begin with a Diagnostic Challenge 1.Read the on-screen instructions START 2.Click on START. Double click on the synonym for the capitalized word before time runs out! Based on your score, you will be assigned a Level to begin your work in. OK Click on OK to begin.

How To Select An Exercise Check your Progress Icon. Exit Word Smart To choose an exercise, use the Exercises Menu at the top of your screen OR select an exercise icon on the left of your screen

What should I begin with? Click an icon to choose a type of exercise. Laser Review – Play a space game to find the synonyms of your words Column Matching – move the word onto its matching synonym Sentence Completion – Use the right word to finish the sentence Flashcards – review & get comfortable with a word set START HERE! Multiple Choice w/ Audio Discussions – multi-sensory learning of words

How to Answer Questions There are five types of exercises in WordSmart Flashcards help you become comfortable with a new group of words. The Core Word is displayed at the top of the screen. The object of the exercise is to guess the right definition. Repeat the group as many times as you like! Click on Audio Discussion to hear word origins & pronunciation of word. The Laser Game allows you to use an Arcade Style format to shoot the correct synonym for the word listed at the top of the screen. To fire the laser before your time runs out, point to the synonym and click the mouse button.

How to Answer Questions cont’d. The Sentence Completion exercises allow you to type in the right word including the correct spelling in the blank box. In Column Matching move each Core Word from the left column to an empty slot in the right column next to its matching synonym. In Multiple Choice, start with the first word in the list on the left side of the screen. A voice will read the word, the sentence, and the five choices. After the five words are read, choose a synonym by clicking on the word. Audio Discussions To hear and read the definition click on the Audio Discussions button.

To View Your Progress From the Main Screen click on the Progress Icon OR go to the Toolbar, File / User Progress. A graph showing your progress for the current level will appear. You may print the graph or write down your scores. Customize your graph by selecting other options!
