Say the Problem (without blame) Sam sits near Jeanie at lunch. He likes Jeanie. He texts her one weekend to ask if she wants to go to Starbucks. He texts her again a day later when she does not reply. Sam’s Perspective on the Problem: She won’t answer my texts Jeanie’s Perspective on the Problem: He won’t leave me alone

Say the Problem (without blame) Sheldon’s Barber Problem What would Sheldon say is the problem? What would Leonard say is the problem? **different perspectives**

Think of Solutions (that are safe and respectful) Should she leave the pan on fire and walk away? Should she put the pan in the sink? Should she get a fire extinguisher?

Think of Solutions (that are safe and respectful) Cinema Problem- The Big Bang Theory What solutions do the guys offer? - Getting Slurpee’s instead of Icee’s - Offer different times to see the movie Why do none of these solutions work? - Sheldon isn’t being flexible

Review- STEP Model  Say the problem  Think of solutions  Explore consequences  Pick the best solution ** We are constantly doing this throughout our day as we encounter problems (big or small)

Let’s watch a show… And see how the characters use the STEP Model
