ME? A LEADER? EXPLORING LEADERSHIP FOR CLD. A CLDMS CONSIDERATION. ‘A CHANCE FOR MANAGERS TO EXCHANGE THEIR IDEAS AND EXPERIENCE.’ OCTOBER 2014

IN ERROR….. WE TEND TO THINK, WE ARE TOLD, THAT AN INDUSTRIAL LEARNING MODEL TRAINS LEADERS. TRAINS? LEADERS?

DOMINATION OR LEADING? EG COMMUNITY PLANNING LEADERSHIP – ‘TELL PEOPLE WHAT TO DO’. WHO GAVE ME THE RIGHT TO DO THAT? WHERE DID I LEARN THIS ‘SKILL’? I WOKE UP THIS MORNING AS A LEADER……. FROM TODAY PEOPLE WILL RESPECT ME…..I’M IN CHARGE.. OH S*!+

SEE OURSELVES AS OTHERS SEE US! IS IT WHAT I DO? IS IT WHO I AM?

VALUES AND PRINCIPLES. LEADERSHIP PARTICIPATION EXPERTISE A BALANCE (TWELVETREES) WHAT DO I BELIEVE IN? DO I SHOW THIS? WHATS IN THE WAY?

WHAT AM I CONFIDENT ABOUT? TRUST PURPOSE FAIRNESS ATTENTION MEANING TRUST SELF BENNIS DIRECTION MOTIVATION REPRESENT DEVELOPMENT KOTTER

PERSEVERANCE NOT STUBBORNESS, ARROGANCE OR HUMILITY FREE. ONE WHO SEES THROUGH TO THE END ONE WHO DOESN’T YEILD MAINTAIN ACTIVITY IN SPITE OF DIFFICULTIES TENACITY STEADFASTNESS PERSISTENCE DOGGEDNESS LETTING GO OF THE PAST LISTEN TO SUGGESTIONS WITHOUT JUDGING LEARN AS MUCH AS YOU CAN… HELP AS MUCH AS YOU CAN… ( NO, BUT, HOWEVER…) WARRIORS FOR THE HUMAN SPIRIT..WHOSE ONLY WEAPONS ARE COMPASSION AND INSIGHT. ENGAGE WHOLEHEARTEDLY, LET GO OF OUTCOMES. WE PERSEVERE WITH THE PEOPLE WE CARE ABOUT. PATIENCE FROM PERSEVERANCE, FALL DOWN 53 TIMES, GET UP 54.

PERSEVERANCE IT’S OUR TURN…. WHEATLEY. UNCERTAINTY IS A HEALTHY PLACE TO BE. FIND OUR PLACE- WE HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY DOING THE RIGHT THING WILL INCONVENIENCE PEOPLE…KNOW THIS. WE DIDN’T PLAN TO LIVE IN A CRAZY, ILLOGICAL, UNJUST WORLD FOCUS ENERGY ON WORKING FOR GOOD.

LET US PLANT DATES, EVEN THOUGH WE WHO PLANT THEM WILL NEVER EAT THEM. ALVEZ LETTING GO BEWARE THE SUPERNOVA FEARLESS AND DISCERNING ANGER CAN BLIND US URGENCY, FROM CRISIS, AGGRESSION MAKE A DECISION NOT TO BE LOST DENIAL? OPEN TO THE SIGNALS BE HONEST WITH OURSELVES BE OK IN THE MINORITY IT’S NOT PERSONAL TREAT PRAISE AND BLAME THE SAME WAY. FAILURE IS COMPLEX, LEARN FROM IT, DON’T BLAME. AGGRESSION CAN SEPARATE – GET CLOSER DON’T BE ENVIOUS- ENJOY THEM BOREDOM? BE BUSY AGAIN. LAZINESS? PERSEVERANCE TAKES WORK. IT’S OUR TURN.. OPEN OR CLOSED- BE OPEN TO THE OPPORTUNITIES. RECOGNITION AINT WHAT IT USED TO BE- WORK UNDER THE RADAR. LET GO OF CERTAINTY, LET THE EXPERIMENTS BEGIN MEASURING SUCCESS? NOT WHAT IT SEEMS. EDGE IS DANGEROUS. IT’S WHERE IT HAPPENS. KNOW THE GROUND, TAKE CARE OF IT.

MY MISSION IN LIFE IS NOT MERELY TO SURVIVE BUT TO THRIVE AND DO SO WITH SOME PASSION, SOME COMPASSION, SOME HUMOR AND SOME STYLE. ‘YOU MAY NOT CONTROL ALL OF THE EVENTS THAT HAPPEN TO YOU BUT YOU CAN DECIDE NOT TO BE REDUCED BY THEM.’

‘IF YOU MAINTAIN A SENSE OF HUMOUR AND A DISTRUST OF THE RULES LAID DOWN AROUND YOU, THERE WILL BE SUCCESS.’ CHOGYAM TRUNGPA, BUDDHIST TEACHER.
