Working for everyone Research ASHRAE

ASHRAE Research Someone has an idea … Someone sees a need … It’s shared, it’s expanded and then quantified … Then it’s studied and examined and reviewed by other experts. Before it’s approved to take the form of Standards, Guidelines, Articles, & Models. Reaching around the world, across boundaries … World Perspective Regardless of where a Research Project starts, is studied, or approved – the impact is felt & the benefit is seen worldwide thanks to ASHRAE Members, Chapters, & professional relationships.

Discussion Ideas, suggestions & needs are discussed and ranked Real World Results are published & tested in the real world, for the entire Society Approval Topped ranked projects are approved & started Reviewed The final results are approved and goals met TC Receives ideas & suggestions Turning Ideas into Results The animation automatically begins.

Energy Sustainability Focusing on making homes & buildings of all sizes more efficient & sustainable Energy Performance Maximizing the actual operational performance of buildings Standards Ensuring that Standards & Guides reflect current needs and trends Building Info Modeling Stretching beyond current boundaries of building models and ideas Cost Effectiveness Progressing toward net- zero buildings and other cost saving measures IAQ Understanding how IAQ impacts work performance & improving health guides

Global Research ASHRAE Research makes every attempt to ensure that projects reflect and have value to the entire HVAC&R Community regardless of location. In addition to the community wide projects, more specialized projects are undertaken to address global goals and fill identified regional needs

Research Projects: Global Needs 1504-RP Extension of Standard 55 Clothing Database to include non- western clothing Refrigeration Portable refrigeration using battery, solar, or manual power instead of electricity 1624 – RP Effective energy- efficient school room ventilation for temperate zones Standards Development of country- specific extensions to Standards to meet needs & goals of different countries

Global Research Projects Year Global Research Currently, there are 5 Research Projects 2 Grant-in-Aid Graduate Student Projects 1 Homer Adams Award Recipient Taking place in 7 countries outside of North America Fiscal Commitment: $1.2 million

Global Research Projects 1306-RP Incident Response monitoring technologies for Aircraft Cabin Air Quality RP Guide for Sustainable Refrigerated Facilities & Refrigeration systems 1624 – RP Effective energy- efficient school room ventilation for temperate zones GIA Project Impact of human convection boundary layer on IAQ in different ventilation areas

ASHRAE Research Regardless of where a Research Project starts, is studied, or approved – the impact is felt & the benefit is seen worldwide thanks to ASHRAE Members, Chapters, & professional relationships.
