Using E-Class Searching for position descriptions based on the kind of work performed

This is a PowerPoint presentation of about five minutes duration. It will explain how to search the E-Class for job descriptions based on the work performed by the position. You may exit the presentation at any time simply by closing the Window. Where this arrow appears, click on it to advance the slides.

Start a clean search by clicking “view/search”… This resets all the search default values.

This search uses the Work Family / Work Stream fields…

All too often, a position’s title gives no hint of the kind of work that is actually performed by the position. The Work Family / Work Stream fields are designed to allows users to search for positions performing the same kind of work, regardless of what we call them or how we rank them! Work Family / Work Stream

These fields are populated by a work hierarchy that describes what the position contributes to government or to the taxpayer. They provide labels that reflect the results of the work performed by the position, and they express that work as a product or service.

The Work Family and Stream labels are designed to be reasonably intuitive. Continued use of them over time make them even easier to use. Select a work family… then a work stream Selecting a work family… …triggers a scrolling list of associated work streams.

Execute the search… Searches are executed by clicking the Submit button.

Search results are displayed in table format… These hyperlinks open the individual position case files containing the job descriptions…
