3 Priority Areas Priority 1 Reduce preventable child injury and fatality. Priority 2 Improved access to information and/or services for all parents and caregivers of children under age 18. Priority 3 Increase trauma-informed awareness, education and response using the protective factors framework.

Strategy Discussion Priority 1: Safe Sleep, Proper use of car seats, drowning prevention, overheating in cars as well as coordinated review of death cases through the child death review and the Fetal Infant Mortality Review (for children under 1 year of age) Priority 2: Marketing and enhancement of system and other available information and referral systems, Help Me Grow initiative, Coordinating circuit-wide. Priority 3: Setting achievable objectives related to staff development of employees within systems with high risk families and means of more effective screening and response circuit-wide.

Pediatric Subcommittee Goal Statement: All caregivers will be trained on handling an infant diagnosed with NAS before discharge Bio-parents, foster parents, relative caregivers, and other caregivers of substance exposed newborns will be trained at the hospital on handling of newborns and Best Practices - training for Florida Hospital DeLand staff CPC placement/foster care resources are trained in special handling - Integration of NAS/signs and symptoms/handling into foster care training - Dixie will reach out to Peggy Fleming/CPC. Neighborhood Center staff and consumers trained. Substance exposed LBW and VLBW infants will be referred to CMS, Early Steps for follow-up and Child Find activities – CMS Referral form being used, Dr. Thorpe will accept all infants at Keech for coordination – need coordination in DeLand and Flagler

Pediatric Sub-committee (cont’d) Substance Exposed Newborns will have “early” follow-up with pediatrician. NOS is actively working with NICU for follow up with Dr. Thorpe on East side. SEN Staffing form updated. Need status on staffings at Halifax NICU and Florida Hospital (Level II status?). Need support for babies at tx sites. Explore research regarding sensitivity of toxicology screens used with newborn sensitivity - completed Support Court Team Model and training activities for health and human service agencies about maltreatment prevention and response – Circle of Security training available through A Helping Hand and Lisa Benitez Provide information to Circuit 7 to assist with updating of Child Abuse Prevention Plan – need specific objectives based on 3 priority areas.

OB/Prenatal Subcommittee Any updates? Need to set new objectives that align with treatment changes and closure of prenatal services at health department – invite FQHC, send info to OB’s, other Screening process and new algorithm needed Power Point available Florida Hospital DeLand being trained

Other Updates/Areas for Follow-Up Resource Guide status – please add additional information and give to Peggy Deltona City Commission approved space in Deltona CAPP Plan – next meeting 3:00 PM After Care Committee needs a chairperson Discuss pediatric follow-up – DeLand and Bunnell – transition to baby’s residence/Early Steps Other?

Additional Updates Chadwick “Supercommunity” findings and recommendations Child Death Review responsibility will now be with the health departments. We have asked for support from the state CPT to pilot joint review activities for birth to 1 year. CAPP priorities – secondary prevention target population – substance using parents.
