Roosevelt’s Foreign Policy By: Janel Alanis & Brea Ann Bailey

Standard Analyze Roosevelt’s foreign policy during World War 2 ( e.g., Four Freedoms Speech)

Franklin D. Roosevelt  The 32 nd U.S President ( ), led the nation through both the Great Depression and World War 2  Helped American people regain faith in themselves  Brought hope and promised prompt, vigorous action, and asserted in his Inaugural Address, “the only thing we have to fear is fear itself”

“ Four Freedoms” speech Four freedoms : 1. Freedom of speech and expression 2.Freedom of every person to worship God in his own way 3.Freedom from want 4.Freedom from fear FDR’s edits- to make sure the world understands that the Four Freedoms must be respected “everywhere in the world”

Roosevelt Corollary  Latin America consumed a fair amount of Roosevelt’s time and energy during his first term as President  Santo Domingo also encountered problems with European countries  During the Santo Domingo crisis, Roosevelt formulated what became known as the Roosevelt Corollary to Monroe Doctrine

Cash and Carry Act 1939  Amendment to the 1937 Neutrality Act promoted by then- U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt to sell arms to the Allied powers  Allowed munitions sales to participants of World War 2

Neutrality Act of 1935 and 1937 Neutrality Act of 1935 and 1937  Export of “arms, ammunition, and implements of war” from U.S. to foreign nations at war  United states desired peace. They did not want to get involved with the European War

The Economic Bill of Rights  “Necessitous men are not free men”  Since “true individual freedom cannot exist without economic security and independence”  Original Bill of Rights must be eight rights that “spell security”

FDR  Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born January 30,  Died on April 12, 1945  Had 5 children: Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr. James Roosevelt, Elliot Roosevelt, Anna E. Roosevelt, John Aspinwall Roosevelt and Franklin Jr.

FDR’s Quotes Nobody will ever deprive the American people of the right to vote except the American people themselves and the only way they could do this is by not voting. A conservative is a man with two perfectly good legs who, however, has never learned how to walk forward Happiness lies in the joy of achievement and the thrill of creative effort
