How would you survive when your money’s worth nothing?

A very successful businessman, the MP for economics, helps the economy improve due to his reforms. However, his reforms begin to backfire with world currency dropping and prices becoming more and more inflated. The world has gone into chaos as people begin looting and rioting, leaving a wrath of destruction in their path. The economy plummets and money is abolished, with the government shifting all of the blame on this one businessman. This leads to him being hated by everyone and hunted by gangs of anti capitalists. This businessman must now come up with a plan to fix the economy whilst fighting for his own survival. SYNOPSIS

From our research of a dystopia film timeline, we discovered that dystopia films play on societal fears at the time so we chose to base our film on economic depression as this is a relevant subject. We were influenced by In Time (2011, Andrew Niccol). This is a post modern dystopia film where the rich can afford to live forever whereas the poor die young as you have to buy time to live past 25. There is no money and people carry currency electronically in their wrist in the form of time. The different areas in the dystopia world are very contrasting with many poor run down areas and many rich wealthy areas.

Action (Main character trying to restore order and the economy) Hint at resolution (Economy starts to redevelop) Story line (Characterisation) The themes of the movie include the theme of money being worthless and it causes an apocalypse. This is a very dystopic theme. The narrative structure of the film is a 3 act structure: The Characterisation of the main character is that he is an anti-Hero as he is portrayed as a villain or “bad guy” at he is blamed for the economic crash but then he is shown to be the hero at the end as he decides to resolve the problem with the whole world against him.

OPENING SCENE Imagine the film opening in turmoil; in a run down and seemingly dystopian street. The camera cuts to our MP; face hidden behind sunglasses and a beard, shaking and coughing as he begins to walk out from an alleyway and down the street. As he walks along, it becomes more and more apparent that he has been outlawed by this broken society: camera zooms in on a poster of his face with a proposed bounty payment. This is the first time it becomes apparent that humans are no longer using money. To fill in the story of how our MP has supposedly ‘destroyed’ the economy, there could either be a man almost preaching in the streets, or a news report, accompanied by flashbacks that show that it wasn’t his fault, and that he was framed.

Act 1 - The film starts with total equilibrium, the economy is on the up and the male protagonist, an MP for economics, is at the forefront. He is interviewed for nationwide news and takes full responsibility for the vast improvement in the economy. Inciting incident – Disruption occurs when there is a nationwide economic crash, the policies brought in by the male protagonist backfire which results in bankruptcy for almost everybody. Act 2 – Due to the economic crash the once praised MP is now in the firing line of the nation as the sole reason that it has fallen. Riots, looting and nationwide death occurs until the population massively drops. The MP is under attack from every direction, he also has suspicions that a government ploy was used to set him up. His family have left him. He decides he needs to take matters into his own hands and prove his beliefs to return order to the economy/country. Realisation – The MP must take it back into his own hands if the country is to be saved. Act 3 – The MP confirms he was set up by others heavily involved. He finds the culprits and brings them to justice to restore his name. There is a hint at a resolution when the economy begins to redevelop towards the end of the film.

Our film ‘Conspiracy’ is an independent film therefore is a low budget film. We aim to promote our film mainly through social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter as our film is mainly aimed at the younger generation. We will promote on these to raise awareness on a large scale (awareness of cinemas and locations that were showing the film), to allow for conversation and debate on the film, to develop fun and exciting promotions such as competitions for free tickets or guest passes to the film launch. We will also have a promotion consisting of a smaller poster and interviews in Empire magazine to reach out to film lovers. At first we will initiate a teaser press release, consisting of teaser posters, a trailer and interviews from leading actors in the film. We will also release teaser clips of the film on social networking sites to maintain interest. Talks and campaigns will also be set up in schools and colleges around the country to reach out to the younger community. MARKETING
