Grants and Loans are available to assist with the environmental costs associated with the redevelopment of a brownfield site.

Grant funding will run out this year. Loan funding may last another 2 years. Currently, no new funding sources identified. Brownfield Grant and Loan Program

2008 Waterfront Redevelopment Grant Dollars Available!!! The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) is accepting proposals for projects that enhance waterfronts, increase public access, and provide economic benefits for communities. Eligible activities include: Environmental Response Activities. Property Acquisition. Public Infrastructure and Facility Improvements. Demolition. Total Available Funding ~ $750,000 RFPs Due - March 26, 2008.

BROWNFIELD REDEVELOPMENT ASSESSMENTS Conducted by DEQ at no charge to municipality Funding provided by EPA Local units of government, local development authorities, and not- for-profit community development agencies are eligible applicants Requests for assessments are made by submitting a request letter and application to the MDEQ Brownfield Assessment Program Manager. property most meet the definition of a brownfield site – “real property with presence or perceived presence of hazardous substance, pollutant, or contaminant.” Reports are similar to Phase I/II ESA and can be used to develop Baseline Environmental Assessments or All Appropriate Inquiry determination.
