 God liberates people from slavery  God and people enter into covenant relationship  People start worshipping an idol  God tells Moses he will not dwell in the midst of the people  Why?

The Exodus Story: God’s Holiness “Buddy Jesus”

To the Israelites the glory of the LORD looked like a consuming fire on top of the mountain.  You are holy and we don’t deserve you, but… You have chosen us You want us to reflect you to the rest of the world We need your full presence to do that  “Show me your glory”

We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.
