What is a sentence? A sentence is a group of words containing a subject and a verb. A sentence must make sense!!
What is a simple sentence? Can stand alone (independent) Can contain compound parts (such as two subject, two verbs, or both) The squirrel found and buried the food.
What is a compound sentence? two or more simple sentences joined together may be joined by a semicolon or a comma and a coordinating conjunction
Semicolon Compound sentences can be joined together by a semicolon. The squirrel climbed the bird feeder; the birds flew away.
Coordinating Conjunctions Compound sentences can be joined by a comma and a conjunction. but, or, yet, for, and, nor, so The squirrel climbed the bird feeder, and the birds flew away.
Examples Justin Lebo of Saddle Brook, New Jersey, loved bikes. He and his dad shared an interest in bicycle racing. They had their garage set up like a bike shop; they worked there on bikes all the time.
