Field Fire Thermals After the rainy practice week, the local farmers were all ready to burn their stubble. This fire is sprouting a cumulus. Not so visible are the 6 gliders in the column going up 8 kt+. On days where normal thermals were 2 kt, lucking into a fire made a huge boost. There were also flight-saver thermals over nuclear power plants along the Loire river. Turnpoints could be medieval castles or cathedrals..

Rope Tricks Every day, the 6 towplanes would drop everyone’s ropes (sometimes it seemed very close!). Then we would have to fetch them. One rope for every ship.

Finishers Finishes were typically “rolling”, as teams. These are the winning UK LS-8s
