Once there were 3 friends kiwi, kereru and kakapo who had lived in their forest since they were born.

One day kakapo was looking for grubs when he noticed some smoke. "I wonder what that is?” he said.

He flew past kereru and went to kiwi’s house. ”I think there's a fire down by the pond.”

Kiwi said “I don’t know what that smoke was but we might find out in the morning.” So they went to sleep.

When Kereru woke up he saw fire in the bushes next to him. He went to Kakapo’s house. “The forest is on fire!“ yelled Kereru. Kakapo followed him to kiwi’s house.

They found Kiwi and had to wake him up. They told him about the fire. They all started to run towards the exit but there were lots of fallen trees in their way so it took them longer.

But just as they were getting to the exit a tree fell on them and knocked them out.

As kiwi woke up he looked around and saw that he was on Tiri Tiri Matangi. He soon found his friends.

They all lived happily ever after
