TRIUMPH Meeting – 7 December 2007, Lisbon, Portugal 12 Conclusions  We have experimentally demonstrated the OTDM to WDM conversion scheme using a NOLM switch at a repetition rate of 128.1Gbit/s  Error free operation was achieved for all the 3 WDM channels  During the validation of the scheme we met few issues mainly related to:  Generation of the 3 WDM channels  Polarisation dependence of the scheme

TRIUMPH Meeting – 7 December 2007, Lisbon, Portugal 14 Siemens approach <2dB Rui Morais et al. “OTDM-to-WDM Conversion based on Wavelength Conversion and Time Gating in a Single Optical Gate”, to be accepted in OFC 2008.

TRIUMPH Meeting – 7 December 2007, Lisbon, Portugal 15 Comparisons with Siemens solution ORC Solution +Faster switch and short time switching window (NOLM switch) +Wavelength allocation is flexible -Polarisation sensitive (non polarisation maintaining NOLM) -2 independent sources for the OTDM signal and the WDM channels (synchronisation between them) -More components (mainly polarisation controllers) -EAM bandwidth and EAM wavelength dependence issues Siemens Solution +Polarisation insensitive +1 single source for the WDM channels +Less components (mainly polarisation controllers) -Relatively long time switching window at the converter (EAM-switching:5-6ps window) -SPM to generate the other WDM channels (high input power levels) -Wavelength allocation is not flexible -The OTDM to WDM conversion does need synchronisation (EAM needs to be synchronised with the incoming signals) -Are EAM bandwidth and EAM wavelength dependence issues?
