JOINING UP GOVERNMENTS EUROPEAN COMMISSION ADMS-enabled exploration of GS1 Dox 20 February 2013

The ISA Programme is undertaking a number of initiatives to promote the reuse of ICT specifications Introduction

Listpoint GS1 UN/CEFACT W3C CEN/CENELC EU Publications Office Third party organisations Standar disatio n organis ations European institutions ETSI OASIS ISO INSPIRE Who publishes ICT Specifications?

... but also EU Member States

It is hard to find, understand and reuse ICT specifications ? However...

I want to explore what is available Let’s look at this from the user perspective

Reusable specifications are not easy to find because they are published on a multitude of websites Digitaliser.dk (Denmark) RIHA (Estonia) XRepository (Germany) International Commission on Civil Status Listpoint GS1 OASIS W3C CEN EU Publications Office UN/CEFACT ISO

General purpose search engines are not good enough What is it about? What type of specification? Which user licence conditions? In which context is it used? What is it about? What type of specification? Which user licence conditions? In which context is it used?

GS1 members visit dox.gs1.eu... 9

... or the GS1 Global Data Dictionary 10

... among those who are not (yet) familiar with GS1? 1.Syndicate descriptions of GS1 standards in a single point of access 2.Provide a search service 3.Encourage reuse Single - point of access But how to raise visibility...

MAP to ADMS CREATE ADMS metadata TRANSMIT ADMS metadata Send the ADMS description (RDF/XML format) to Joinup via REST Web Services Send the ADMS description (spreadsheet or RDF/XML format) to Joinup via Publish the ADMS Joinup via description on the Web (RDF/XML format), so Joinup can harvest it Upload manually the ADMS description (spreadsheet or RDF/XML format) on Joinup Use a dedicated exporter that transforms the current representation of the specifications into ADMS Use the webpage on Joinup: web form to encode the ADMS file directly on Joinup Create manually the file using a text editor or a form. Use the ADMS editor on Joinup: web form to encode the ADMS file directly on Joinup Build a mapping from a native schema to ADMS Use ADMS as a native metadata description schema Annotate assets manually with ADMS and publish them on the web Use the ADMS editor to annotate assets manually on Joinup Number of assets in the repository How can you join?
