Building Inspections is operated as an “Enterprise Fund” as established in October 2006; revenue collected for permitting and other building revenue sources remains within this area. First Step Center What is first step? This is a permit and development assistance center for all new construction with the exception of single family homes. The center has representatives from GRU, Fire, Public Works, Planning & Zoning, Building and Police. Each representative provides their departments requirements to the applicant for their specific project. The center operates for a half day Monday through Thursday (8:00 am – 12:00 pm). First step center coordinator: This position does building review for the site plan process, as well as schedule and coordinate First Step meetings.
