5-3 Slope-Intercept Form Objective: Students will be able to write and graph linear equations in slope-intercept form.
What is the slope-intercept form for a linear equation? Why is this so useful? – It gives us two important pieces of information about the line: it’s slope(m) and it’s y-intercept(b)
When a linear equation is in the form y=mx+b, follow these steps to graph the line: 1)Plot the y-intercept [ordered pair (0, b)] 2)From the y-intercept, use the slope to plot additional points. 3)Draw a line through the points; Make sure it has arrows to show the line extends infinitely in both directions. 4)Smile! Your line is graphed. Note: When the equation is not in slope-intercept form, you will need to solve for y to get it into slope-intercept form.
