National environmental charity Passionate about cleaner, greener places Work to influence policy relating to quality of place Help organisations improve place management through quality standards and other programmes Work in neighbourhoods to support communities

Will communities support growth? People are passionate about where they live The need for additional homes is recognised and understood but… …48% of people would oppose building new homes in their immediate area (Shelter) Enabling the diverse range of people in communities to engage will lead to better decisions Communities can benefit from guiding decisions about how associated funding is used – eg Community Infrastructure Levy

Addressing concerns People want to protect what they have Concern about devaluing assets – individual and community Reassurance around type of development - will it contribute to or detract from the quality of the area? - will it meet local needs and aspirations? - the bits between the buildings Enable communities to work with design teams – and develop the skills to do it

Some questions Who will make the case for new development? Will neighbourhood planning permit the densities needed to make development viable in our cities? How can we ensure that everyone is able to contribute to neighbourhood development plans?
