IMTC – PSS AG Interoperability tests Third Testing Cycle Summary Packet Switched Streaming Activity Group

PSS AG PSS AG Aim Performing interoperability tests for Packet-Switched Streaming according to TS and TS , for delivering/streaming multimedia content over wireless networks

PSS AG The group just finished the Third testing cycle by performing a F2F meeting last week in Kista Sweden. 15 vendors took part in the recent testing cycle. The F2F meeting included testing over a WCDMA network as well as on a network simulator to simulate network errors The F2F was the last phase of the cycle started at March 2003 by performing offline tests and streaming over the internet. Status

PSS AG Participants *Joined for this cycle  Apple *  Emblaze Systems  Emuzed  Ericsson  Fraunhofer IIS-A  Hantro  LGE  LogicaCMG  Mobixell Networks  Motorola  Nextreaming  Nokia  PacketVideo  Philips  Qualcom *  RealNetworks  Sharp *  Sony-Ericsson *  ST-MicroElectronics *  Texas Instriments *  Vidiator Technologies

PSS AG The Growth of PSS-AG Emblaze Siemens PacketVideo Philips Motorola Mobixell Nextreaming HantroVidiator Real Nokia Ericsson Fraunhofer LogicaCMG Emuzed LGE Sony-Ericsson ST Microelectronics Qualcomm Texas Instruments Apple Sharp

PSS AG New Vendors 6 new vendors joined the group in the last 6 months: Sony-Ericsson ST-Microelectronics. Qualcomm Texas Instruments Apple Sharp

PSS AG Main Tested Components Voice, audio and video CODECs –GSM/AMR (NB & WB) –AAC –H.263 –MPEG-4 Visual Content negotiation & Transport protocols –RTSP/SDP –RTP/RTCP 3GPP/MPEG4 - File Format

PSS AG Test Procedure Test Procedure The tests are being done according to a test procedure that is developed and constantly improved by the group members (currently at version 0.3) It was tailored to meet the needs of the vendors and the reference specification The test is composed of 5 stages that can be divided into 3 main groups: –Offline test  Raw bitstream  FF  Packetized bitstream (optional) –Virtual online test  Content negotiation / Transport protocols –Full system, Face-to-Face  Errorless / Simulated error condition

PSS AG Last Cycle Updates Improved informative website Improved testing document (ver 0.3) Deployed automatic reporting tool (IOTzilla) Implementation guide (ver 1.3) Testing live streaming. Testing SDP session establishment. 2 technical liaisons were issued by the group and approved in SA#4. Performing F2F over a 3G Cellular network. About test points registered using IOTZilla.

PSS AG IOTzilla The PSS AG uses a unique tool named IOTZilla for tracking and managing the test points. The tool is provided to the group by Ximpo and gives us the following advantages: Ximpo

PSS AG IOTZilla Enables the group to grow while maintaining the efficiency of testing. Saves history of problems identified during testing. Easy and secured access. Gives a correct status of the tests in real time. Saves time for the engineers. User friendly.

PSS AG IOTzilla

Plans Start the 4 th testing cycle at October 2003 Test new features Create a procedure to allow more exposure of testing information to the outside world

PSS AG Participation Requirements Developers of: –Streaming servers –Content creation tools –Multimedia terminals Membership in the IMTC

PSS AG Steering & Outputs Weekly ConfCall Interoperability test procedures Technical reflector Test control Web-based tools (IOTzilla) Implementation guide Informative public reflector PSS Interop PRs

PSS AG The PSS Group Qualities Valuable discussion over a private reflector High growth rate (6 new vendors during the last 6 months brings the group to 21 members) Contributions to 3GPP according to practical tests Cohesive group with common aims and goals oriented to PSS Interoperability Strong, ever-improving cooperative spirit based on highly professional and personal attitude

PSS AG Why Join the PSS AG The PSS AG is the only open group which tests PSS interop according to the 3GPP specifications All are welcome! The PSS AG membership includes leading wireless multimedia vendors The PSS AG is an active professional group that is growing fast to be the PSS interop leader

PSS AG Why Should You be There Verify that your implementation is interoperable Expand the proliferation of standards Foster cooperation by creating direct channel at the engineerial level Improve the PSS specification Create market leverage
