History/ Interesting Facts Dave Thomas was adopted. He never knew his birth mother. His father died in On November 15, 1969 he opened the first Wendy’s. Rex and Auleva adopted Dave Thomas when he was 6 weeks old. When Dave was 5, his adopted mom Auleva died. Dave ended up having 4 children. Dave Thomas died on January 8 th 2002 at the age of 69.
