 You will need your Official FFA fair uniform.  You can either come to the fair grounds in your uniform on show day or change at the fairgrounds…. There are bathrooms.  You should (highly recommended) have something to put over your white pants. (so they don’t get dirty) *fitting pants.

 Competitive exhibits are displays put on for the public to see in an organized fashion  You can display anything, check out all possibilities thefair.org  Some examples: scrapbooks, photos, food, veggies, collections, table settings, etc…  You all must have at least one

 This year will be the first year we will allow families to stay at the fairgrounds in the RV park.  Parents will need to sign a responsibility contract for those staying out at the RV park  Westmont High School Agriculture department staff is not responsible for your son or daughter after 6P.M. and before 7A.M.

 Supplies:  Rubber boots are good  Show stick  Wash cloth or minnie brush for showmanship to stick in back pocket  Soft brush for washing  Feed supply  Sun screen on white, aloe on sun burn  Shavings (Dave’s or Sam’s or anywhere you can find them

 CLEAN PEN EVERYDAY!!!! (don’t care who but needs to be clean once a day at least and I will be checking)  Feed your pigs!!!! Feed doesn’t magically appear in the feeder  Let Mr. Duarte or your parents know at least a week ahead of time before you run out of feed  Treat your pig they way you want to be treated: you can slap and kick, but not too hard  Make sure to take care of rashes (desitin works well)  When washing, let pig walk into water, pig can go into shock if it gets cooled too fast

 Do Not feed pig just sweets, they need their corn based feed to GROW!  Weigh your pig at least once a week ( keep track of weight with your phone or on a sheet of paper)  DEWORM your pig! This helps them have a constant weight gain! You need to deworm your pig at least 2 times when you have it! A good practice to get into is just do it once a month!!

 When hot… wet your pig and pen down at least 2 times a day to keep them happy so they will EAT, other wise they do not want to eat  Practice showmanship with pigs ( I am willing to get a group of kids and schedule extra practice)  DO NOT go into others pens unless asked to  Ask questions!!!!!  Supplies:  Halter to walk around with  Feed bucket  Water bucket  Feed is not supplied by Mr. Duarte (get your own, we have used lamb slam and high noon in the past successfully)  Shavings: talk to pen mates(who’s turn it may be)  Salt lick(white) do not get a mineral lick(brown) it contains copper which is toxic to lambs  You show with your hands though, no show halter

 Your lamb should be exercised at least 3-4 times a week, everyday would be nice.  Bedding is required in the top of the pen. (Sam’s and Dave’s have bedding) bedding should be changed every 2-4 weeks or when needed.  Pen should be cleaned everyday.  Your lamb MUST be fed 2 times a day everyday.

 Make sure to deworm your lamb when you get them and again in June.  DO NOT WASH YOUR LAMB! They will get wool fungus and you don’t want that.  Weigh your lamb at least once a week and keep track of it on your phone or on a piece of paper that you won’t lose.  Practice showmanship with your lamb as much as possible(I am willing to help people with showmanship if they want it)  Make sure your lamb has water and it is clean.  Ask the breeder about feeding protocal.

 After shearing put sunscreen on your lamb because they can get sunburnt.  Here is a list of people who had lambs last year: Madi, Cassie, Rachel, Maddy, and Clara  If you need help with something or aren’t sure about something don’t be afraid to ask we would love to answer your questions!  If you think your lamb is sick or something is wrong with them let someone know ASAP.

 Sunday through Friday there are dinners that the boosters put on for kids!  The chapter buys a chapter hog(raised by Troy this year) that we eat trough out fair  Themed dinner every night  Kids and parents are in charge of side dishes and desserts( potluck style)  Free food and fun, fun, fun!  We’re always looking for old foldable or lounge chairs to keep at the dinner area and tent that’s outside of the barn

 If you sell your animal through the auction, then Mr. Duarte will receive the check  In order to receive the check, you must write a Thank You letter to your buyer and pay Mr. Duarte all fees  Also, there are subsidy checks that the boosters give all kids who…  Attended all summer school, care for animals properly, etc…  You must write a thank you letter to them too, to receive it  Cattle is $350, Pigs receive $200, Lambs and Goats $125, Rabbits and Chickens $25  Subsidy is money that the boosters give us willingly, they don’t have to, but is really nice to show appreciation towards them, they give them to us to help with cost of the animal(s)  You give this letter to Mr. Duarte to approve
