DOJ Media Campaign Crime lab submissions up x4 since 2006 Teens trying heroin up ˃300% since 1995 More than 75% who try heroin will use again Campaign: – aimed at young people – goal is to raise awareness of heroin’s destructive power; prevent first time use – one small decision can quickly spiral out of control – resources available for parents, educators, & community advocates as well, both online and in print form

Green Bay PD Awarded $25,000 Organized representatives from: – Schools – Businesses – Government agencies – Law Enforcement – Judiciary – Treatment providers – DOC – Politicians – EMS

Wausau Police Department Requested $25,000 “Pushback Against Drug Abuse” campaign Partnership of 250 people and orgs Have ID’d 2000 households in high risk neighborhoods – Substance abuse most likely to occur – Intend to raise awareness and reduce burden of substance abuse

Funds will be used to: – Create educational/outreach materials – Send Wausau POs to schools/youth orgs/business groups/community members to conduct Drug ID training – Hire a facilitator Wausau Police Department
