Year 10 Biz Langs studies for the…

What is the CBLC? It is a Certificate in Business Language Competence. Our exam board is OCR. It is available at various levels – each level represents skills, vocabulary and knowledge required within a business context It is a qualification that starts at pre-GCSE level (Entry Level) and goes right up to University first degree standard (Level 4) It is available in Spanish, French and Italian at all levels OCR also offers studies in Russian or Japanese at Entry Level The World in your hands!

The CBLC was developed to meet the needs of business! It is a valid and sought-after qualification in the world of business. In fact, British Airways were one of the first businesses to use the CBLC to accredit their staff’s language skills EMPLOYERS LOVE IT! More and more schools are seeing the value of giving their students the opportunity to gain this qualification.

What’s in worth, then?! (Points DO mean prizes! Kind of..!) CBLC Level 1 CBLC Level 2 CBLC Level 3 Levels 4 and 5 are equivalent to Higher Level examinations at university degree level! = NVQ Level 1 = NVQ Level 2 = NVQ Level 3 and AS/A2 From this year on, Level 2 and level 3 candidates will be able to convert their CBLC points into GCSE and A Level UCAS points, respectively! Now, that’ll look good on your Uni application, won’t it?! How much more useful could this course be?!

What’s good about it? Well, what else? ? The of the course is important! We decide when to invite in the examiner! We do the level that most suits our individual needs ? In many schools it is used to complement language learning at GCSE and to s-t-r-e-t-c-h gifted and talented students

In the Entry Level you will learn how to: Deal with visitors to a company Book hotel accommodation Deal with directions and signs Make arrangements to travel on business With a focus on oral competence (getting your speaking skills up to scratch!)

What else do you get out of it! You get a separate certificate for each element! You can only pass or fail AND! The examiner is not the enemy! He/she is your ‘friend’! If you attempt each task (assessment objective) and you have prepared well you are likely to be successful. If not, it is possible to re-book and do it again another time.

Moving on… The upper levels focus more on developing your abilities in: Listening Reading Making telephone calls and presentations Formal conversation Writing in the target language
