Contents Project Aim Description of project Work to date Work to be done Issues/Concerns Expected outcomes

Project Aim To support individual learners in the identification and development of their key skills in their curriculum, through the use of a learning coach/form tutor. All six key skills will be developed at the appropriate level for individual learner.

Description of project Project focus altered and refined with aid of key skills consultant; Explore how a Learning Coach or Form tutor would offer support and guidance for key skills by structuring 1:1 tutorials using IOLP standards as a foundation.

Description of project Two groups of students involved: 1. 8 KS 5 students who are studying for vocational qualifications with a partner special school. (group working with Learning Coach) KS 4 students who are studying citizenship and aiming for the WBQ qualification. (group working with form tutors and citizenship teachers)

Work to date Training for learning coach Learning coach starts working with students (communication) KS 4 targets set (not linked to IOLP standards) Met with key skills consultant KS 5 students start ‘working with others’ Staff training for KS 4 form tutors (intro to IOLP and using information from the progress file)

Work to date Students, with guidance from learning coach, use working with others templates to help them organise fund raising activity.

Work to date ‘Pink Day’ Some portfolios of evidence for level 2 working with others will come out of this activity. Students raised over £800 for the chosen charities.

Work to date Study Skills seminar run by outside agency – maximise. Evaluation question – after today, what changes will you make in your life? Set myself targets and stick to them Better target setting and be more confident I will put my targets up next to my mirror To do targets and complete them Try to keep to my targets and set more Set myself targets and put them on the wall where I can see them everyday

Work to be done Develop IOLP documentation within school for staff to include; Role of learning coach Role of the form tutor Project for KS 4 students. Targets set for KS 5 students, based on review of activities completed to date, and follow through IOLP cycle. Staff training (form tutors, learning coach & citizenship tutors) in relation to IOLP documentation. Refine IOLP documentation. Set targets for KS 4 students following review.

Issues/Concerns Ideally project would have been started earlier. Delay in announcement meant that systems already in place for September could not be changed (whole school target setting process). KS 5 students - will they still be here? Do they have the confidence to present? Links with partner school – developing the skills they need. As always – paperwork and key skills.

Expected Outcomes Resources for supporting the form tutor/learning coach to mentor students through the development of key skills using IOLP standards as a foundation; sample portfolios of work; case study on the use of the learning coach to develop key skills; case study of working in partnership to develop and accredit key skills between a mainstream and special school.
