Shelter Meeting 09b is hosted by UNHCR Introduction to transitional shelter Transitional shelter was introduced by Shelter Centre following the South Asia Tsunami in 2004, seconded by DFID and UNHCR, and UN/OCHA in Sri Lanka and Indonesia, respectively. 56,000 shelters were built over the reconstruction period, accommodating the majority of the affected population The approach has since accommodated millions of conflict and disaster affected people, from Kenya to Indonesia Manufacturers are developing prototypes to Transitional Shelter Standards, funded by DFID and USAID
