Calories A unit of ENERGY What calories do: –The number of calories in a food is a measure of how much potential energy that food possesses –We burn calories through metabolic processes

Calories in food FYI 5 lbs of spaghetti 1 piece of cheesecake 217 Big Macs Brew a pot of coffee Light a bulb for 1.5 hours Drive a car 88 miles The calories in these foods could:

WOW! Calories! 3,500 EXTRA calories is stored as FAT (1 pound!) Burning 3,500 calories MORE that you eat converts that 1 pound of stored fat to ENERGY CALORIES IN & CALORIES OUT to maintain or lose weight

WATER VS. COKE 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated! Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime hunger! 8-10 glasses of water a day can ease back and joint pain for 80% of sufferers! A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory & trouble with basic math!

WATER VS. COKE Drinking 5 glasses of water a day can decrease the risk of: –Colon cancer by 45% –Breast cancer by 79% –Bladder cancer by 50% ARE YOU DRINKING THE AMOUNT OF WATER YOU SHOULD EVERY DAY?

COKE VS. WATER You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke & it will be gone in TWO DAYS! To remove rust spots from chrome bumpers: rub the bumper with a piece of tin foil dipped in Coke To clean corrosion from car batteries: pour a can of Coke over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion

COKE VS. WATER To remove grease from clothes: empty a can of Coke into a load of greasy clothes, add detergent & run through the regular cycle Coke will clean road haze from a windshield The highway patrol carries two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove BLOOD from highways after an accident!

FYI The active ingredient in Coke is Phosphoric Acid. Its pH is 2.8 and can dissolve a nail in about 4 days Phosphoric acid leaches calcium from bones To carry Coca-Cola syrup (concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material sign! Now the question is… WOULD YOU LIKE A GLASS OF WATER OR COKE?

No more than 40g of sugar a day what?! Gatorade 20oz: 35g Cranberry juice 16oz: 68g Vitamin Water 20oz: 32.5g Coke 20oz: 67.5g Hawaiian Punch 20oz: 72.5g Propel 16.9oz: 4.5g G2 20oz: 12g Water any oz: 0g
