Overall Picture

Step 1  First, there is a release of a metal ball down spiral tubing. This piece is detachable.

Step 2  Proceeding the ejection the metal ball hits a small domino, which then hits three wooden dominos.

Step 3:  The final domino hits a race car that is then released down a track. A string is attached to the car in order to keep the car in place.

Step Four  At the end of the track the car hits a Dixie cup which then pours water against a backboard and into a funnel.

Step Five  The water spirals through the funnel landing on a weight suspended by tissue paper. After a few seconds the weight falls through the damp tissue paper, which then travels through the pipe.

Step Six  The weight lands on a seesaw. Attached to the seesaw is a string that lifts a wood piece, just perfectly.

Step Seven  The wooden lip then taps a marble forward to send it down a series of half pipes.

Step Eight  As it ascends down the series, it hits a backboard, sending the marble in the opposite direction.

Step Nine  After hitting the backboard, the marble goes down a set of stairs. At the end of the stairs, the marble hits a mouse trap that is attached to a string.

Step Ten  On the opposing side of the string there is a triangular block that is pulled out from under a Gatorade bottle. The bottle is filled with Diet Coke and covered with a rubber glove.

Step Eleven  The tilt of the Gatorade bottle sends a Mento, that is waiting on a wooden ledge, into the Diet Coke which then starts a chemical reaction.

Step Twelve  The chemical reaction inflates the rubber glove into a pre-formed peace sign for our message.

Main Issues/Troubles 1. Keeping the car from falling off the track after it tips the Dixie cup. 2. Figuring out how much water/weight was needed to break the tissue. 3. Finding a way to lightly tap the marble to ascend down the pipes. 4. Determining how to get the Mento to fall into the diet coke at the perfect time. 5. Using enough time.

calculations  Most of our calculations were trial and error and figuring out what worked best.  Our first trial was too short so we had to incorporate several more steps into the design.

Conclusion  Overall, our team did very well completing this project and overcoming our design issues. We all inputted to this project and had great ideas. We used a spiral, dominos, a race car, water, a seesaw, descending pipes, a mouse trap, a chemical reaction, and the list goes on. We used as many resources as we could staying within our time limit. Our final message was a peace sign to show that peace is geatly needed in this world after all of the horrible events taking place in the United States recently.
