Emergency Declaration Is more limited in scope, and without some of the long term Federal recovery programs available in a major disaster declaration. Situations of Distress When a natural catastrophe or other situation has not been declared a disaster or emergency by the President, but, in the judgment of FNS, warrants the use of USDA foods

Disaster Response Consideration ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program

Guidelines for Schools as Authorized Shelters ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program  CE’s that become shelters and provide meals for evacuees.  Get credited for in their Entitlement Account for USDA foods used.  Need to provide information to TDA Commodity Operations.

School Districts opening shelters ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program Notify immediately John Kyere at TDA via at or at to advise of shelters and shelter locations that will be opened.

Guidelines… ESC 1 Food and Nutrition Program  If a CE uses USDA foods to provide meals, within 30 days of closing a shelter, the district must track and report the following:  Distribution period: dates USDA foods are used to assist in congregate feeding  Commodity description: the type of USDA food used with USDA commodity code (reference Texas Unified Nutrition Programs System – TX-UNPS)  Number of cases: the quantity of USDA food used  Number of persons served
