LungFIT: Phase 1 Preliminary Data By: Christen Chan, MSc Candidate

Study Purpose To test the reliability and validity of the LungFIT system measuring heart rate, oxygen saturation, and distance in healthy adults. – Gain feedback on the presentation, ease of use, and functionality of the LungFIT system – Compare the 3 different probes (Nonin, Masimo, LionsGate Technologies)

Sample Population 15 adults 35 + years old to match COPD population – As well as generation’s typical smartphone use Speak and read English State they can walk unassisted for 1 hour Free of diagnosed respiratory, hypertension, or cardiovascular disease No uncontrolled, severe, or exercise induced asthma No physical disability/injury to body, limbs or hands Answered ‘NO’ to all questions on the PAR-Q questionnaire

Methods - Study Introduction Consent form followed by PAR-Q form Baseline measures: age, sex, height, weight, smoking status, smoking history (pack-years), experience with smartphones, and relevant medical information After 15 minutes of sitting: resting heart rate and oxygen saturation from pulse oximeter

Methods – Functionality Test 1.Orientation manual of the LungFIT explained 2.Time-to-complete test 3.Administer the adapted Mobile Phone Usability Questionnaire (Ryu & Smith-Jackson, 2006)

3 LungFITs Cosmed K4b2 Nonin Pulse Oximeter 12-Lead ECG Cycle ergometer

Methods – Exercise Tests Cycle Ergometer Test: Cycle at RPM for 5 minutes, intensity of 50 Watts with a RPE at or below 4 Treadmill Test: Walk at 3km/hr for 5 minutes Outdoor Walking Test: Walk 1 lap of a measured course at an outdoor park (362 metres) Reliability testing: Each exercise test will be repeated 3 consecutive times with 3 minute breaks in between each set.

Results – Sample Characteristics CharacteristicValueStandard Deviation Subjects (n)15 Age Sex10 Female/5 Male Height (cm) Weight (Kg) Smoking Status Never Smoker=8 Ex-Smoker=6 Active Smoker=1 Smoking History (pack years) Smartphone Experience Novice=1 Intermediate=1 Advanced=10 Expert=3 Resting Heart Rate Resting Oxygen Saturation

Results – Usability Questionnaire Overall, all sections scored well It is easy for you to remember how to perform tasks with this system? 15/15 It is easy to set up the LungFIT system? 15/15 It is easy to take corrective actions once an error has been recognized? 13/15 Are the response time and information display fast enough? 15/15 Has the LungFIT system at some time stopped unexpectedly? 1/15

Cycle Ergometer Test Measures were not recorded if there was a weak signal quality Total ‘missed’ values: – Nonin: 13 – Masimo: 2 – LionsGate Technologies: 10

Treadmill Walking Test Total ‘missed’ values: – Nonin: 3 – Masimo: 4 – LionsGate Technologies: 6
