The otter eats clams, snails, crabs, and many other things. The otter brings up shells with prey inside they also brings up a big piece of rock.

Rabbits are found in the Piedmont habitat. They live in forests and under bushes in neighborhoods. They make holes in the ground and borough in holes.

Chipmunks are small members of the squirrel family. Chipmunks can be found in woodlands, forest edges, bushes, gardens, parks, around houses. They have reddish- brown fur, with white and black stripes on their back. They also have long flat bushy tails. The largest chipmunk is the eastern chipmunk, which grows up to 11 inches and weighs as much as 4.4 ounces. The smallest chipmunk is the least chipmunk, which grows up to 8.5 inches and weighs up to 1.8 ounces.

White-tailed deer are 3-3 ½ feet tall at the shoulder and weigh pounds. Males are larger than females and grow antlers from March- August. Antlers are shed in late winter. On rare occasions, a female will grow antlers. The deer coat is reddish brown in the summer and grayish brown in the winter. Fawns are reddish brown with white spots.

In 1970, the Brown Thrasher became the state bird of Georgia. Much like the Green Tree Frog, this animal, too was chosen by students. The Brown Thrasher can be found in neighborhoods and fields throughout Georgia. These birds eat lots of different things, like bugs, small animals, fruit and nuts. Brown Thrashers have long curved beaks that help them find food.

The Copperhead is the most common venomous snake. Although copperheads are generally not aggressive, they have very good camouflage and can easily be stepped on by accident. Most copperhead bites occur, however, when people try to handle or kill a copperhead.

Honey Bees are the highest form of insect life, they live in a well organized colony that does not need to hibernate. They produce honey and store it in wax comb and use the same hive from one year to the next.

Whether you are searching for them among cattail reeds in the daytime or on a wall near an outside light at night, you are bound to be delighted with Green Tree frogs when you find them. When Green Tree frogs get together at mating sites they may number in the thousands. Look For : A long-legged, green tree frog with polished, smooth skin and usually a bold white stripe down each side of its body. Call resembles a cowbell clinking about once a second. Length : 1 1/4-2 1/4". Habitat : Vegetation, usually along edges of streams, marshes, and ponds. Range : Southeastern U.S.

Azaleas are called “The Royalty of the Garden".

The red maple is known as a Perennial Tree. The Red Maple has Green foliage. The greatest bloom is usually observed in the Early Spring, with fruit and seed production starting in the Spring. Leaves are not retained year to year.

The Tulip Poplar is also known as Yellow Poplar or Tulip tree. Tulip Poplars are native to Georgia and most of eastern U.S. Tulip Poplars provide nectar in the spring with their flowers and sap in the winter for wintering hummingbirds. Wintering hummingbirds feed off of the sap and the insects attracted to the sap when the Yellow-bellied Sapsucker drills wells into the tree.

Averaging about 4 ft (1.2 m) in height, goldenrod is a perennial with clusters of bright yellow flowers.

The blackberry is a delicious fruit that is made up of many smaller fruits called drupes.

This native perennial plant is 1½–3' tall. The central stem is light green and largely hairless. Near the base of the plant, are basal leaves with long narrow petals. Blue Aster

Explore our foothills and the Piedmont area. Here you will find the "Furniture Capital of the World" and the country's largest walk-through natural habitat zoo, along with vibrant cities rich in culture and welcoming small towns. We will take you to countless museums, planetariums and festivals.
