October 2008 CAP National Safety Down Day Lt Col Larry Brockshus MN Wing/ SE

Why a Safety Day? Pause for introspection Look at unit culture – how the unit trains, talks, acts and listens Look at your self – your attitude toward risk Focus on problem areas (trends) Both from a National and a local perspective Learn how to manage risks Formally and informally This is a pre-emptive strike on future mishaps Commanders will choose the day in October

What is our Culture? Do you have a trained, motivated Safety Officer? Do you have quality safety meetings? Is ORM a part of your unit’s culture? Identify Hazards Assess Risks: probability/severity Mitigate Risks: analyze/decide/implement Safety is a Command Issue and Everyone's Job! Can you do better?

How are we doing?
