Skills and Techniques Revision and Prelim Preparation

Intermediate 2 Question 6a Describe one skill or technique that you regard as a weakness in your performance

What information do we need? Name of skill How is it classified (open/closed, simple/complex) Why? Describe the skill- Subroutines – Preparation – Action – Recovery

6 b Describe the methods you used to analyse the weakness identified?

General data- skills checklist, partner watched flight rotation inversion skills. Performed 5 times On 5 th attempt ticked how you performed. This showed the handstand forward roll was a weakness. Focused data- model performer observation Observation schedule broke it into subroutines Performed 3 times Placed a ?, x or What information do we need?

6 c Describe two methods of practice you used to develop the skill or technique you identified as a weakness in part (a)

What Information do I need? Gradual build up – What did you do? Repititon What did you do?

6 d Explain why these TWO methods help to improve the weakness in your skill or technique

What information do we need? Explain = WHY? Skill is broken down into small parts learned in stages Once skill is practiced and mastered learner moves on (3 times) Each stage is harder than the 1 before contains more subroutines Gradual build is effective because………..? Same AS above for REPITITION!!

Intermediate 1 Choose an activity from your course. Name of activity Describe one basic/simple skill/technique you performed.

3a Gymnastics Simple Skill- Forward roll Preparation Action Recovery

1b Describe one complex skill/technique you performed.

3a continued Complex skill – Handstand forward roll Preparation Action Recovery

3b Describe a practice used to improve one of these skills. Name of skill Description of method of practice i.e gradual build up

3 b Describe what you did and why Gradual build up what is it? Why did you do that? What did you do?

3 c From the same activity, select a skill/technique that was a weakness in your performance. Skill/Technique………………….. Describe how this weakness affected your performance.

3 c Handstand Forward Roll Couldn’t do part of the skill e.g. lock arms This meant my body buckled under my weight. As a result I was unable to link handstand forward roll smoothly with the skills before and after it in my routine. I got less marks because of my poor performance

3 d Describe how you recorded information about this weakness.

3 d I completed a Model Performer observation schedule for the handstand forward roll. The observation schedule broke the handstand forward roll down into subroutines. I performed the skill 3 times. After each attempt I watched a video of my performance. I placed a, a X or a ? beside each subroutine depending on how well I performed it.

3 e Describe the steps you took to improve your performance in this skill/technique.

3 e Gradual build up What did you actually do?

3 f What changes did you see in your performance after a period of time?

3 f My routine now contains more complex skills with high tariffs that are performed with control and fluency allowing me to gain a higher mark. Being able to perform the skill automatically allows me to perform it to a high level without thinking about it. This allows me to focus on forthcoming skills to ensure they are executed with control and fluency.

3 g Give an example of how feedback helped your performance

3 g Feedback through Feedback through – Verbal – Written – Visual – Intrinsic/ internal Positive feedback reinforced my strengths Positive feedback reinforced my strengths Helped me analyze my weaknesses and improve them Helped me analyze my weaknesses and improve them
