Why we have the Lord’s Supper Every Sunday Why we have the Lord’s Supper Every Sunday

Jesus Instituted the Lord’s Supper as a Memorial of His Death 23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, "Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me." 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, "This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me." 1 Cor. 11

Jesus Instituted the Lord’s Supper as a Memorial of His Death 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death till He comes. 1 Cor. 11 Regularity How often?

The Lord's Supper (Communion) We celebrate the Lord's Supper approximately once each month to remember Christ's execution on the cross to atone for our sins. The unleavened bread symbolizes his body broken for us, and the grape juice symbolizes the blood he shed for us. All who believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior are invited to participate. We believe that children also should be able to participate in this special event, as they are just as much a part of the family of God as anyone. The precedence for including children was established in the Old Testament where children shared in the Passover celebration. The Lord's Supper is a New Testament experience of the Passover.

World Communion Sunday 2003 World Communion Sunday -- celebrated the first Sunday in October -- is one of the most venerable of “special Sundays.” The day has taken on new relevancy and depth of meaning in a world where globalization often has undermined peace and justice -- and in a time when fear divides the peoples of God's earth. On this day we celebrate our oneness in Christ, the Prince of Peace, in the midst of the world we are called to serve -- a world ever more in need of peacemaking.
