Why the Word Had to Become Flesh By God’s justice the original covenant can’t simply be set aside. The covenant was broken. He is bound by His word to execute judgment upon Adam. If the I AM prefers to forgive the original sin, pardon the guilty, and stay their eternal execution, He, as the author of the covenant and the only other party to it, may bear the guilt and punishment upon Himself. The Word, a Person of the Trinity and author of the covenant, took on human flesh and was born a descendant of Adam. As such, He could truly bear the guilt and suffer the penalty of Adam’s sin.

Why the Word Had to Become Flesh (cont.) The sovereign God preserved the integrity of His justice keeping His word to the original covenant. The penalty was paid in full. Jesus, the Word incarnate, satisfied God’s penalty of the first covenant. Having done so, His Father is free to raise Him from the dead and offer the mercy of the second covenant to Adam’s descendants who will believe this “good news” about His Son. HIS BLOOD RATIFIED THE EDENIC COVENANT …for the demonstration of His righteousness at the present time, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus. Romans 3.26

There is a Redeemer! Not because He lived a perfect life never breaking the Mosaic Law. Because He is the only One having the authority, power, and position in the covenant to take upon Himself Adam’s penalty. Behold! God’s Lamb who takes away the sin of the world!
