Playground Safety Primary Edition Madison Elementary School

Safety First Please remember that the playground is meant as a fun place to be. We want everyone to be safe and happy, so we insist that you never hurt anyone with your actions or your words. If you feel angry or scared please talk to a duty teacher.

Using the Bathroom During Recess Get permission from a duty teacher To get the most recess time, we recommend using the bathrooms in the breezeway Enter the building through the side doors

Wall Ball The goal of the game is to strike (hit or sock) the ball in a downward motion so it bounces on the ground then hits the wall Player must hit the ball with a 2 handed fist

Basic Rules 2 people on the court Winner from previous game, serves The received must return the ball (no outs on a serve) The ball must bounce before the player hits it. After the player hits the ball it must bounce before it hits the wall. The first person in line is the judge if there is a question about a call. A player does not have to remain in court during live play.

Liners A liner (ball that lands on the line) is playable. Ball must land outside the line to be out.

A player is out if… The ball doesn’t bounce before hitting the wall. The ball doesn’t bounce before the player hits the ball. The ball bounces more than once The ball hits the very corner of the wall and ground The ball is stopped or caught. A live ball strikes them.

Wall Ball Extras No do overs. If a line judge isn’t paying attention then they go to the end of the line.

Swings Always swing facing the playground. Swing forward and backward only. No pushing No bailouts Bottom on swing Hands grip chain Never be in the chip area unless you are swinging.

Counting on the Swings If the swings are full…you may count on someone. When counting, each swing forward counts one and each swing backward counts one. When you have counted 100 swings, they will give you their swing. When counting, stand in front of the swinger but out of the chips. 1 2
