About Bikeability  What is Bikeability???Bikeability is where adults come into schools to teach a class about how to be safe on the roads. They stay with that class all week and the adults teach sessions each day. You have your class split into 2 groups. At the end of the week you are given a level. You can get either level 1 or 2. Level 2 is a higher mark than level 1.

Day 1- Basic skills What did you do on day 1? On the playground. On day 1 of our Bikeabilty we stayed on our school playground. After a quick check up of our bikes we started. We learnt basic skills like:  Cycling to the other end of the playground.  Cycling through cones.  Signalling.

Day 2- On the road The fun starts! Stopping and starting Day 2 was our first day on the road. We practised starting and stopping properly. GO!

Day 3- Turning and U-turns Were did you turn and how? Arm signals On day 3 we practised turning. We were taught how to put out our arms out so we could turn left, right or u- turn. We were doing a circuit with all the turns, but whilst I was doing the u-turn I went too quickly round and skidded off my bike and now I have a big bruise on my leg. LESSON LEARNT- STAY FOCUSED AT ALL TIMES!!

Day 4- Turning from the major into minor road Did you improve your turning skills? Focus on instructions 1) LOOK behind you and then put your hand out and move to the middle of your side of the road. 2) CHECK that nothing is coming on the opposite side of the road. 3) If there is NOTHING coming then proceed and turn, if there IS something coming then WAIT until it is clear to go. Then you can proceed and go on with your journey.

Day 5-Examination time! LETS CYCLE! Practice makes level 2 ! Before we took our test, we learnt some final skills. We were taught how to overtake parked cars safely. Now to think about everything we have learnt. One final recap of all the skills. Then we did a circuit and in that circuit was when the instructors noted down how well we did and wrote down a score on their note pad. EVERYBODY PASSED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don’t do it wrong  Stay focused.  Listen to instructions.  Stay safe.
