Achieving a Balance – Group Activity Effectively Balancing A Day In The Life of a College Freshman

Friday’s To Do List Meet with your group members to work on your school presentation for an hour. Work from 9:00am to 2:00pm. Exercise for one hour at the gym. Attend class from 3:00pm to 4:30pm. Make and serve dinner for yourself and your 2 younger siblings (8 year old and 11 year old). Have a lunch break. Study for at least 2 hours for the upcoming exam. (This time can be divided throughout the day as you deem best). Travel for 45 minute each way (from school to work and work to home). Catch up on your favorite television show. Pay your cell phone bill online. Pick up your parent’s clothes from the cleaners. Attend campus party scheduled to begin at 11:00pm. Babysit younger siblings from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. Meet up with old friends to go shopping for tonight’s campus party. Chat with your significant other on the phone.

ACHIEVING A BALANCE- SUMMARY Student Performance Objectives:  Cognitive: Students will prioritize a selection of the responsibilities and options that they will face as college students.  Students will classify activities as duties or choices. Affective:  Students will discuss the broad variety of obligations, choices, and temptations that college and freedom present.  Students will understand that flexibility and autonomy require discipline and maturity.  Students will value the need to balance ‘needs’ and ‘wants.’ Behavioral:  Students will be able to identify priorities that are critical for success in college.  Students will be able to prepare a weekly and monthly planner, with regular and sporadic activities. List 2 non-academic obligations that a college student would face. List 2 recreational activities I am looking forward to in college.
