Software GPure is a software used to simplify 3D Models generated with Catia. This software is developped by Delta CAD a company based in Paris. This company proposes different applications designed to facilitate the work with 3D softwares like Catia. (more informations here: ) 14/04/20111GALLEAZZI F.

GPure is used by different companies : We are in relation with the GANIL and IN2P3 who are using GPure too. The GANIL is using GPure since last summer. It is very interesting to discuss with them because they have the same type of 3D models as we have here at CERN. 14/04/ GALLEAZZI F.

GPure has been tested with other types of models : Models of Experiments (Atlas) Models of services The size of CGR models generated with GPure are always lower than the CGR models generated from Catia. The difference can be important for Integration of large assemblies (like Atlas Experiment or LINAC 4…). With Gpure, we have the possibility to define different scripts adapted to the various models produced at CERN. Once the script is written the model convertion time is short (3mn for the SLAC Collimator and 10 mn for the RFQ Cavity). 14/04/20116GALLEAZZI F. The results of these tests seemed OK, even if the scripts for these types of models do not exist yet…

Models generated by GPure are CGR models, and they have some disadvantages : Positioning: A skeleton must be added to the CGR model. The same skeleton will be used for the positioning of Detailed model and Simplified model in a large assembly. 14/04/20117GALLEAZZI F. Skeleton Elements

Models generated by GPure are CGR models, and they have some disadvantages : Measurements : The faces and axises are lost. Radius or diameters are lost in a case of cylindrical models. This skeleton is used to put the different models in position. 2 views imported in 2D : - 1 with the CGR model - 1 with the skeleton The 2 views must be superposed. Conclusions : The simplified models made with GPure will help the Integration teams in constructing Large Assemblies of Machines or Experiments. Layout drawings can be produced from these Large Assemblies. With these models it is possible to check dimensions and to detect conflicts between differents equipments. Once the assemblies are constructed, detail models can replace the simplified ones in areas where equipments are close to each other. With this manipulation, we can check with a better precision. 14/04/201115GALLEAZZI F.

Next steps: The order of 1 floating licence of GPure is placed. 5 people (from CAD Support and Integration team) will be trained. Some CERN specific scripts will be ordered from DeltaCAD. The methodology for using GPure in the CERN environment is being defined at the moment. The first simplifications made with GPure in production at CERN, will start soon. 14/04/201116GALLEAZZI F.
