Increasing Funds and Adoption at the Calhoun County Humane Society By Courtney Hicks

Background and History of Humane Society Located in Anniston, Alabama Founded in 1973 by Susan Phillips Self-supported and not affiliated with any other municipality.

Mission Statement To provide pets with a safe sanitary place. To prevent cruelty to animals To stop suffering among animals mutilated or injured To educate the public about the tremendous pet over-population in the United States To promote spaying and neutering to prevent the senseless killing of animals To place as many pets as possible in responsible homes

Problems Lack of money: 1. To buy supplies for animals 2. To pay employees Not enough animals being adopted

Goals Attract public attention to the shelter Stock the shelter with necessary supplies Get more pets animals adopted

Objectives To make local people aware of the overflow of pets at the CCHS. Bring Pets to the Public Seek Donations Seek Volunteers

Audience The main audience is anyone in the local area. Previous Pet Adopters Animal Lovers

Strategies and Tactics Make Local People Aware of Problems  In addition to the pet of the week in the Anniston Star, add a small section in the Sunday paper showing more pets. Also have a couple of paragraphs expressing problems with food and cleaning supplies and ask for the communities help with donations. Update website to show possible donors exactly where their money will begoing. Bring Pets to the Public o Have an event on the square in Jacksonville and one in Oxford where the animals are brought to the public. People will be able to see and interact with the animals hopefully creating a bond. This event will be publicized in all the local papers and through flyers. This will only be for animals who travel well. Seek Donations o Set up donations bins at stores such as Pet Smart to receive items such as food and treats Seek Volunteers oContact area schools. Certain students may need community service hours and may be willing to do them at the animal shelter. This will help with lack of employees and the lack of money to pay employees.

Calendar The campaign will take place through the next year. June- August 0f 2008 Planning of upcoming events and fundraisers Set up donation bins at area stores

Calendar Continued September May 2009 Students from each school will come one week a month for two days out of the week. Expos of the animals will be set up in town will be set up on the first Saturday of the following months: September, October, March, April, and May This is because weather is neither too hot or too cold.

Budget Over a Year Transportation Flyers( 1000) Bins w/ signs Ads Total $300 $15 $100 $150 $565

Evaluation Through spending a small amount of money throughout the year, positive feedback will occur. People affected will either adopt or donate. More animals will be adopted decreasing costs of cleaning and feeding. Through students yearly volunteer work, salary money will be saved. Look at Annual Reorts
