Legislation House Bill 4460 (Act 197, Public Acts of 2006) Signed June 29, 2006 Requires schools (K-12) to perform 2 drills in which occupants are restricted to the interior of the building and the building secured appropriate to an emergency such as a hazardous materials release (shelter in place) or intruder on or near premises (lockdown) MSP-EMHSD shall develop a model to be used by a school in conducting and coordinating drills

Final Thoughts Schools are encouraged not to conduct drills until receipt of policy packet Drills must be coordinated with emergency management coordinators and emergency responders Drills conducted without coordination of emergency managers and emergency responders will not be considered complete under this legislation Only one drill will be required for this school year (2006-2007) because of late receipt of policy packet Beginning September 2007, two drills will be required
