What is the MKOC? The Msgr. King Outreach Center is an ecumenical outreach to Denton’s homeless population. Msgr. King first opened the doors of the Narthex at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church during a cold winter night in Monsignor King once stated regarding his ecumenical outreach vision, that simply, “this is what we're supposed to be doing”…… “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’ -Matthew 25:39-41 The MKOC is open from 6PM to 8AM during inclement weather: In winter when temps drop below 32 degrees and in summer when the heat increases to over 100 degrees. We offer a nourishing meal, cots and linens for a comfortable night’s sleep, and Christian fellowship from our wonderful volunteers. Coordinated by members of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church the center is a true collaboration of several churches, organizations, individuals, and businesses. We are blessed to have a temporary building provided by Denton Bible Church and transportation by Denton Calvary for our guests. Many faith groups and individuals from local churches volunteer and donate supplies to operate the shelter. Some of our ecumenical partners include volunteers from St. David’s Episcopal Church, Singing Oaks, First United Methodist, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church. Some organizations include: Our Daily Bread, Knights of Columbus, ICC Staff, and others who volunteer their time and talents to the success of the shelter. Local restaurants have generously participated to provide evening meals serving up to 50+ guests including Mom’s on Main, Metzler’s, Little Caesar’s, Cartwright Ranch….just to name a few. What are we doing? MISSION The mission of the Monsignor King Outreach Center is to provide basic essential emergency assistance to disadvantaged members of our community during times of inclement weather. We provide a nourishing meal, a comfortable and safe place to sleep for the night, guidance to local support organizations, as well as hospitality and fellowship from our many gracious volunteers. VISION The vision of the MKOC is to have a permanent building to increase the number of nights we open to include nights with any precipitation and severe conditions. With a permanent location, we will be able to offer day services such as: opportunities to research support resources, job search, job skills training, shower and laundry facilities, etc. Our permanent building will also provide a venue for other groups and agencies to minister and/or work with our guests for overall life improvements skills/training. With your time, talents and treasure, we can help realize Msgr. King’s dream truly helping our fellow brothers and sisters to feel loved, appreciated, and have the dignity of self sufficiency.
