THE ORIGINS The origins of this festival were intimately linked to All Saints Day. It seems that many years ago, the Halloween celebration was dedicated to the dead, an ancient funerary meal. The chestnuts were eaten in a strict family and was a ceremony of worship, a very serious and respectful attitude. It was believed that the brown that ate that night was a soul released from purgatory

In Catalonia, the night of October 31, we celebrated '' la Castanyada'' In this night everybody eat chestnuts and panellets.

Panellets are a typical dessert of Catalonia Also eat sweet potatoes.

In la castañada the typical drink is the moscatel,

It is usually represented by the figure of a chestnut: a woman dressed in poor clothes shelter and a headscarf in front of a street vendor roasting chestnuts.
