 Liquidambar styraciflua  When the leaves are crushed, it produces a citrusy scent.  The sap, when hardened, was used as gum.  Sweet gum wood is used for doors, and crates.  Straight trunk  Produces seeds in shape of ball, seed called gum balls.

 Brittany: You were able to see changes in the tree. The best part of the project was being able to research and learn about the tree.  Katie: The best thing about adopt a tree was actually getting out of the classroom and seeing the tree instead of just doing research about them.  Antwon: The color of our tree and all the gumballs are amazing to see on our tree. We didn’t have to touch the tree because of the poison ivy.
