Characteristics of Organisms Learning About Organs with Timon and Pumba By: Meagan Charrier 1 st Grade GLE 29 West Baton Rouge Parish Schools

Timon is ready to eat some grub! He’ll have to use his digestive system to do it.

First, he has to find some food! Hey, this looks like a good spot to rustle up some grub!

Timon has found some food and will begin to eat it. He also shares his grub with his friend, Pumba. Timon and Pumba use their mouths to chew their food. This is the first part of the digestive tract. Mouth

The teeth in their mouths help them to chew the food. The saliva in the mouth helps to moisten the food. The tongue helps to move the food to the back of the throat. Then the food goes down.

Once the food has been chewed, it is then pushed down the esophagus. The esophagus brings the food to the stomach. Esophagus Mouth

Next, the food enters the stomach. Here the food is mashed and churned and turned into a liquid. Esophagus Mouth Stomach

The food then moves to the intestines to help the food break down even more. The nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream. The rest of the food is left in the body as waste. Stomach Intestines Mouth Esophagus

The food that Timon and Pumba eat gives their bodies lots of energy. This energy helps their heart to pump blood throughout their bodies.

Their lungs take in oxygen when they breathe. The blood absorbs the oxygen and is pumped throughout their bodies. Lungs

Timon and Pumba also have strong bones that give their bodies shape. These bones help to protect organs inside their bodies such as their stomach, heart, and lungs.

Here are some of Timon’s bones! Bones

Muscles help Timon and Pumba to move and dance. Muscles allow you to move your body. Muscles
