Don’t be a meany

What is “ethics”?  The voice in your head telling you what is right or wrong.

Business Ethics  Using your judgment to make business decisions.

What causes unethical behavior? BBeing profit OBSESSED. MMisplaced business loyalty. WWanting personal gain. NNot meeting expectations. AAn unethical business environment. NNot wanting to take a stand.

Making the Ethical Decision:  Just ask yourself these 3 questions… Is it illegal? Will I break any rules? What are the effects?

Is this illegal? DDoes the action you are about to make violate any federal, state, or local law? IIf so… DDON’T DO IT.

Does this violate company or professional standards?  Does this action break any rules set by the company?

Who is affected and how?  Consider employees, owners, customers, the local community, and society when making a decision  If any of the above are affected negatively, the decision may not be wise

Ethics is a Science A method for determining if an action is ethical or not ie ask yourself 3 questions 1.Is this action legal? 2.Does it violate company or professional standards? 3.who is affected and how?

Ethics is an Art This outside of the box. Think ahead. Think about the consequences. Who will this impact. How will this affect them. Is that really the type of action I want to take?
