LET’S FIND OUT…  Soda is a SOLUTION where the SOLUTE is dissolved by the SOLVENT (the solute is usually a solid and the solvent a liquid)  Think-Write-Pair-Share/Diagram  So, what does give the POP?? What happens over time??

CARBONATED CANDY  Have you ever tasted the candy that sizzles and fizzles in your mouth? The manufacturer makes it by forcing carbon dioxide gas under high pressure into a hot liquid sugar mixture. SO HOW DOES THE DISSOLVING TAKE PLACE?  Dissociation, dispersion, and ionization  Before we move on, what are ions?

THESE NEED TO BE ADDED TO YOUR INTERACTIVE NOTEBOOK  Dissociation: the process in which a compound separates into ions.  Dispersion: breaking into small pieces that spread throughout the water (like sugar)  Ionization: where neutral molecules gain or lose electrons (neutral? Electron?)
