21 Deployment Considerations  What are the drivers for VDI?  Sizing is complex – better to keep it simple, validate and monitor Server memory and CPUs (1 GB per user and 10 users per core) Steady state (10-20 disk IOPS), Boot storm, Login storm and Virus scan IOPS Storage capacity for deltas (15 GB per desktop) Storage protocol - NFS (GbE/10 GbE), iSCSI (GbE/10 GbE), FC (4/8 Gbs)  Is your virus scanner VMware View optimised?  How many users do you plan to support initially (concurrent)?  How many users would you ultimately need to support (concurrent)?  What about Disaster Recovery?  Don’t forget your Microsoft licenses

22 The Proof of Concept  What server and storage hardware will be used?  How many concurrent desktops?  VMware View deployment options Endpoints Thick-client (Windows/MAC/Linux) Thin/Zero client Tablet (iOS/Android) Internal/external access (2-Factor authentication) Linked Clones v Full Clones Persistent v Non-persistent Persona Management vSphere Storage Accelerator vCenter Operations Manager Foundation ThinApp

23 The Proof of Concept (Continued)  Testing LAN and WAN performance Graphical and multi-media application performance Printing and USB peripherals Image management and optimisation User v Machine policy management  Sizing (Real World utilisation) Server memory and CPU Bandwidth (LAN and WAN) Steady state, Boot storm, Login storm, Virus scan and Desktop Recompose/Refresh IOPS and bandwidth Storage capacity for deltas  Adjust server and storage specification as appropriate
