La “A” personal Los apuntes de clase

significado The “A” in the personal A has NO translation into English. 1.It is ALWAYS required when the action of the verb goes toward a person or something that refers to a person. (direct object )

ejemplos I see Marcos. Yo veo a Marcos. They visit their friend. Ellos visitan a su amigo.

We call our uncles. Nosotros llamamos a nuestros tíos. You take Paco to the store. Tú llevas a Paco a la tienda.

2.Sometimes, when the direct object is an animal with a name, the personal “A” is used. I am looking for Puff, my cat. Busco a Puff, mi gato. We call Spot. Llamamos a Spot.

3.The personal “A” may be used when a geographical name is the direct object. (This usage is changing and now you see it with and without the personal “A”) We know ( are acquainted with) Spain. Conocemos a España. Conocemos España.

No uses la “A” personal: You don’t use the personal “A” when there is a preposition after the verb: –con –de Don’t use the personal “A” when it is the subject of the sentence. After the verbs Tener and Ser

Ejemplos: Hablo con mi amigo –I am talking with my friend. Paco viaja mucho –Not: A Paco viaja mucho But: A Paco le gusta… (The “A” is NOT a personal “A”)

I have three brothers. Tengo tres hermanos. You are my friend. Eres mi amigo/a.
