T-AVB 3 Site Survey After Action Capt Joey S. Martin

Pilot Information Handbook Usually on the L-Decks, provide a Pilot Information Handbook (kneeboard size), which depicts ship’s pattern/procedure, emergency marshalling procedures and other Air Operations procedures particular to that air capable ship. I understand that the SS Curtiss produces such a book. I need to find out if the SS Wright has a PIH. I was told that the 1 st Mate or the Master would have the answer. If the ship does not provide one I need to get the ship’s procedure manual so that I can create a PIH.

Communication/Navigation Aids I think we need to exercise the new comm system and Navigational aids prior to the actual exercise. I will be out of pocket for the MPC, unfortunately I will be on leave from 26 Mar to 2 Apr 04.

Helicopter Landing Support According to Bob Silva, 1 st Mate SS Curtiss, a six- Marine firefighting team usually augment the ship’s flight deck crew. We need to verify that this is the case with the SS Wright. We also need a minimum of 2 Marines trained to direct the helicopters in for landing. According to Sgt Kidder he has a total of 5 (including himself) Helicopter Landing Support Marines trained to do both duties.

Helicopter Landing Support Required Equipment According to Bob Silva, the T-AVB is required to have PPE on hand for the ship’s crew (not embarked Marines). We need to verify that this is the case with the SS Wright. If the above is the case with the SS Wright, We need the following PPE Not organic to my unit –6 Red Float Coats (1 for each firefighter) –6 Red long Sleeve Jerseys (1 for each firefighter) –2 Red Microphone Cranial, 4 Red regular cranials –At least 2 *yellow Float Coats (1 for each director) –At lease 2 yellow long sleeve jerseys (1 for each director)

Training Sgt Kidder is verifying that all of his Marines’ training is documented. If we can get all 5 HSL Marines we will still need 3 Marine just to have the min augment team. I have been in touch with Chief Campton (Asst Trainning Chief) on Camp Lejeune; it turns out that they coordinate to have the a Navy Flight deck expert come down to Lejeune to train Marines prior to deployment. Since we have only3-5 guys (alt) who might need the training, it is possible that they might have to travel to Norfolk to receive the training. Before we set up this training we need to verify that we need all these Marine to augment the deck crew.
