WHAT IS HAPPENING TODAY!? SIT BACK, RELAX, AND STEP INTO THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF SHANNON…IF YOU DARE!

WHAT IS AR? AUGMENTED REALITY! A technology that superimposes a computer-generated image on a user's view of the real world, thus providing a composite view. Augmented reality (AR) is a live, direct or indirect, view of a physical, real-world environment whose elements are augmented by computer-generated sensory input such as sound, video, graphics or GPS data. It is related to a more general concept called mediated reality, in which a view of reality is modified (possibly even diminished rather than augmented) by a computer. As a result, the technology functions by enhancing one’s current perception of reality. By contrast, virtual reality replaces the real world with a simulated one. Augmentation is conventionally in real-time and in semantic context with environmental elements, such as sports scores on TV during a match. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulable. Artificial information about the environment and its objects can be overlaid on the real world.

DO YOU KNOW WHAT THE ORIGINAL “AR” WAS? One of the earliest examples of technology being used to actually augment reality is…a green screen! Credited to Larry Butler, a scene featuring a genie escaping from a bottle was the first use of a proper blue screen process to create a traveling matte for The Thief of Bagdad (1940), which won the Academy Award for Visual Effects that year.

HOW DID YOU MAKE THAT AMAZING VIDEO?! It was actually very simple! First, I downloaded the “Veescope Live” app (it is free, but after using it for a few projects now, I just might purchase the pro pack).

NEXT, I FOUND A FLAT SPACE I COULD USE

NEXT, I HUNG UP A GREEN TABLE CLOTH THAT I PURCHASED AT THE DOLLAR STORE

THEN, I USED A LAMP TO HELP DISPLACE THE LIGHT EVEN OVER THE TABLECLOTH TO PREVENT SHADOWS

BOOM! GOOD TO GO!!!

HOW DID YOU EDIT MULTIPLE CLIPS TOGETHER INTO ONE MOVIE? I used a free app called “Video Editor Free.” Check this out as well! It did not do exactly what I wanted for this specific video, but still a great app to use to make exciting videos! Magisto

WHO WANTS TO GO ON A VIRTUAL REALITY, EDUCATION EXPLORATION?

AURASMA Aurasma is HP Autonomy's augmented reality platform. It is available as an SDK or as a free app for iOS and Android mobile devices. Aurasma's image recognition technology uses a smartphone's or tablet's camera to recognize real world images and then overlay rich media on top of them in the form of animations, videos, 3D models and web pages. Both businesses and individuals use Aurasma to create and share their own augmented reality experiences as well as to discover hidden digital content around them. Teachers are among the most active group using the platform.mobile devices
